
Somewhat rare today, this stoneware jug was used from the mid 1800’s as a means to purchase mercury that was sold in apothecary shops. This 10 lb. jug of mercury was used by miners to refine gold.
Additionally, mercury was the "developing" agent in the Daguerreotype process of photo developing and was sold in 5 and 10 lb. jugs.
