This Fortin type barometer consists of a long glass tube that is sealed at one end. The tube s inverted so that the open end is submerged in a reservoir of mercury. The height of the mercury within the tube is a measure of the atmospheric pressure acting on the mercury in the reservoir. These devices are commonly found in high schools, colleges, universities and other industrial settings.
